CHAPTER 2

NOTIFICATIONS

A notification is an automatic one line note created by the system to inform members of events that involve them. The primary use of a notification is to notify a you that someone has accepted your message. To see your notifications, click on Notification Items on the EIES® homebase. You are now at the NOTIFICATIONS WAITING LIST screen:

It’s a good idea to check your notifications when you first sign on to EIES® so that you will know what has occured on the system since you were last active. There are two types of notifications:

RECEIPT/REPLY - Notifies you that someone received an item you sent and/or replied to it. Unlike typical E-mail, this feature of EIES® will let you know that someone has accepted your item. You won’t need to waste time resubmitting mail or making a telephone call to make sure your item was received.

CONFERENCE ADMISSION - Informs you that you have been admitted into a conference (such as a class).

2.1 Removing Notifications From Your Waiting List

The main purpose of a notification is to inform you of events that occur on the system. Once you see your list of waiting notifications they have served their purpose. You should now remove them from your waiting list so that you will not have to repeatedly see them. Do this by clicking Accept All on the Notification Waiting List menu bar. If you want to see any notifications again just click on Accepted.

2.2 Viewing Notifications

Each notification has additional information linked to it. For example, a notification informing you that you have been added to a conference will have the conference number linked to the conference description. A notification informing you that someone received a mail item you sent will be linked to your mail.

To see the linked information for a waiting notification simply click on the highlighted word(s). For example, consider the following notification:

Clicking on the highlighted nickname, GoodCook will display Julia Child’s directory entry, while clicking on C1 CC92 will display that item from the conference.
