Connecting to EIES®/VC® via Telnet From a Remote Host

EIES/VC can also be reached from other computers on the Internet using the telnet command. The EIES/VC Internet address is vc.njit.edu. At your local computer's prompt type telnet vc.njit.edu

If you have any difficulty connecting to EIES through telnet we suggest you first try obtaining assistance from your local computer's system manager since firewalls and other security measures may disallow access to certain sites.

Once you connect to EIES/VC using telnet press <Enter> until you see a 'Local>' prompt. Then type c vc.

You will then see a login or username prompt. Type your User Number and press <Enter>.

You are now logged onto the host machine. The system will then ask for a terminal type as follows:

The default setting of the emulation is vt100 although vt220 and others are acceptable. Simply press <Enter> here unless you are certain that your computer uses a different emulation. To see a list of supported terminal emulations, type ? at the 'Terminal" [vt100]> ' prompt.

The system will now automatically take you to the EIES/VC program signon screen. In the lower-left hand corner of the screen a 'password' prompt will appear. Type your password and press <Enter>.

You are now running the EIES/VC program on the NJIT host machine. Please see the EIES Starting Guide for vt100 or refer to the EIES on-line help from this point on to guide you through the system.
