1. Dial In: Use a terminal communication software package such as TeraTerm (click on Tera Term to download the software to your PC), ProComm+, Kermit, Win95 HyperTerminal*, Windows 3.1 Term*, or similar software to dial the modems and make an ordinary terminal connection. Ensure that your terminal software is setup for either 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, & no parity or 7 data bits, 1 stop bit, & even parity. The terminal must be full duplex.
* Windows '95 HyperTerminal and Windows 3.1 Term do not provide a file transfer protocol for uploading or downloading files to and from EIES/VC.
2. Authenticate Your Connection: Once you have connected to the NJIT modem pool press <Enter> until you see a 'username' prompt. At the 'username' prompt type your EIES/VC User Number. If you do not yet have an EIES/VC account refer to the Instructions for Obtaining a New Computer Account. At the password prompt type your EIES/VC password. This step is used to determine that you are a valid NJIT user, you can connect to any NJIT computer system from this point on.

3. Connect to EIES/VC (or any other NJIT system): Press <Enter> until you see a 'Local>' prompt. Then type c vc and press <Enter&g t;.

You will then see a login or username prompt. Type your User Number and press <Enter>.

You are now logged onto the host machine. The system will then ask for a terminal type as follows:
Terminal [vt100]>
The default setting of the emulation is vt100 although vt220 and others are acceptable. Simply press <Enter> here unless you are certain that your computer uses a different emulation. To see a list of supported terminal emulations, type ? at the 'Terminal" [vt100]> ' prompt.
The system will now automatically take you to the EIES/VC program signon screen. In the lower-left hand corner of the screen a 'password' prompt will appear. Type your password and press <Enter>.
