Instructions for Obtaining a New EIES® Account

Step 1: Register for a course:

You can create your own EIES account if you are registered for any NJIT course during the current semester. Please allow one week for processing of mailed-in registration, or 24 hours for in-person or on-line registration. Should you have any doubt about your registration status, please feel free to call the NJIT Registrar at (973) 596-3236 or visit the Registrar's office on the second floor of the Hazell Center, Newark campus. Distance Learning students should contact the Distance Learning Department at 973-596-3177 or visit suite 5600 in the ITC building, Newark campus.

Step 2: Get Connected: New! VC/EIES accounts can now be created via Web interface located at http://directory.njit.edu/~accts/cgi-bin/new

On Campus Applicants: If you are on campus, go to any terminal which is connected to the NJIT campus network. Terminals of this type are located on the second floor of Colton Hall and the third floor of the library. Simply turn on one of the terminals and press <ENTER> a few times until you see a "Local>" prompt. At the local prompt type c followed by the name of the system you are requesting an account for.

Local> c vc (Be sure to use lower case).

Press <ENTER> again and you should get a "login:" prompt. Type newacct at the prompt and press <ENTER>.

Off Campus/Distance Learning Applicants (dialing in via modem): Dial into the modems using a terminal program (see Connecting to the NJIT Campus Network for more information about dialing in.) Once your computer connects to the modem, press <ENTER> several times until you see a 'username' prompt. At the 'username' prompt, type neweies

Off Campus/Distance Learning Applicants (using telnet from another system): Use the telnet program or command from another computer system to connect to vc.njit.edu. At the 'login:' prompt, type 'newacct'.

Step 3: New Account Application: You should now be presented with a series of questions. You must answer all of the questions for your account to be set up.

Your ID number (this is usually a social security number) including hyphens.

The system will now check if you are a registered NJIT student. If the system prevents you from obtaining an account at this point, it means that you are not registered for any NJIT courses (see Step 1 for help).
Enter your initial password:
Your password. It must be at least 6 characters long and must contain at least one letter and one number.
The NJIT "Access to Information and Computing Agreement" will now be displayed. Kindly read it carefully, and enter "Y" at the prompt if you agree to the terms given.

Next, your EIES LoginID will be displayed. MAKE A NOTE OF YOUR LoginID, you will be displayed need it to get onto the system. The CSD staff and your professor will not be able to assist you with your account unless you know the LoginId.

Now that you've applied for your account, the computer system needs to do the actual creation of the account. We promise to have your account ready within 24 hours, but sometimes they are faster. You can check your account by using your username instead of "newacct" as was shown in Step 2. Please do call for assistance (973-596-3437) if your account does not work after you've waited 24 hours.
